Alfred Porter Putnam (1827-1906) graduated from Brown University in 1852, and Harvard Divinity School in 1855. He was ordained to the Unitarian ministry in 1855 at Roxbury, Massachusetts, and spent most of his career at the First Congregational Unitarian Society of Brooklyn, New York. Putnam retired in 1886, and resided in both Danvers and Salem, Massachusetts. He also organized the Danvers Historical Society in 1889 and served as its president.
