The present-day Unitarian Universalist Service Committee continues to endeavor to advance human rights and social justice throughout the world.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection consists of photographs, slides, and negatives which document a number of humanitarian programs conducted by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee from 1972 to 2005. These include international programs in Africa, Asia, Central America, North America, and South America; JustWorks, a program established in 1996 which provided opportunities for many people from around the country and overseas to work on issues of racial, social, and economic injustice; and programs geared to assisting children in this country and overseas, such as Promise the Children, an effort launched in 1989 to train UU activists to advocate for needy children. In addition to photographs of UUSC programs, the collection also includes photographs of members of the UUSC Board of Directors; the administrative staff, (including Richard Scobie who was president of the UUSC from 1972 to 1998), the General Assembly (1989; 1991-1998; 2000; 2004); and various demonstrations, events, and conferences. There are also four slide-show presentations in the collection, which are entitled "Breaking the Cycle," "Positive Images of Aging," "Voices of Change," and "Window on the Truth."
