Organization Description:

InterPlay is an active, creative approach to connect more deeply with our inner body wisdom and build connection through community with practices of movement, song, voice, storytelling, dance, and stillness. InterPlay Northeast is the local regional affiliate of BodyWisdom, Inc., a national non-profit supporting an international movement, “changing the world one hand dance at a time.” InterPlay Northeast shares the InterPlay philosophy and practice to build bridges and strengthen joyful, meaningful connections within and between people. We offer programs across Massachusetts and Connecticut, engaging adults and children in ongoing groups and retreats addressing creative wellness, trauma, embodied healing and spiritual practice. Our priority as a field education placement is to support and train students who share a commitment to 1) healing splits between mind, body, heart, and spirit, 2) the health that results when we cultivate our more improvisational, resilient, and embodied human capacities within our communities and institutions, and 3) equity and transformation across the intersectionalities that include access, race & ethnicity, gender identity & expression, religious & spiritual practices and global climate health.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

Students will design workshops and programs for organizations and communities which the student identifies. This field education placement brings the opportunities to: build relationships with organizations and community connections initiated by the student; be involved in existing InterPlay programming; and work on projects created by the student with support of the supervisor. While the majority of the field education placement will be focused on projects developed by the student, regularly scheduled InterPlay groups in Cambridge and the suburbs can provide opportunities for an HDS student to practice co-leading InterPlay offerings in-person. Students will also have the opportunity to access national & international InterPlay programs and leaders.

This placement will be guided by the interests, passions, and initiative of the field education student, so the ability to collaborate and reach out to people in their area of interest and to organize their time is essential.

Commute/Transportation Information:

There are InterPlay groups that meet in Harvard Square, within close distance to HDS, as well as many virtual offerings. Today, with virtual gathering continuing to be a common venue a student should have adequate computer access to support reliable connection to platforms. For activities outside of the Harvard area, it will be important for the student to have access to transportation.

Arts of Ministry Competencies Offered:

  • Administration and Program Development
  • Pastoral Care and Counseling
  • Peacebuilding and Just Conflict Resolution
  • Public Leadership, Community Organizing, and Planning
  • Racial Justice and Healing

Supervision:

CC King is a regional coordinator of InterPlay Northeast, a master leader and trainer in the practice since 2001, and currently mentors InterPlay leaders-in-training rooted in a spiritual, embodied and community-oriented context in the Boston area. Her background in expressive therapies and commitment to our place in the natural world inform the supervisory relationship. As supervisor, CC will meet weekly with the field education student for reflection and project supervision. Weekly supervision can take a number of forms, including using InterPlay tools and practices for embodied reflection and meaning making.

Additional Information:

  • Number of Students: 1
  • Total Compensation: $6000.00
  • Type of Compensation: Work Study
  • Additional Notes: My commitment to recognizing and cultivating our spiritual and physical relationship with the nonhuman world has deepened and been informed by a Buddhist lens. As an essential aspect of resilience and our capacity to respond to inequity including the climate crisis, this feels important to my work and the role I can offer students.
