Organization Description:

The Organizing Strategy Team’s role is to develop strategies, strengthen the capacity of Unitarian Universalist congregations, organizations and individuals to organize for justice, and to mobilize power and people for liberation. The team focuses on four key intersectional priorities to strategically build power for creating justice at this time. Those are:

  • Climate justice, inclusive of indigenous sovereignty and climate resilience
  • Criminalization, inclusive of racial justice and immigrant justice and the criminalization of poverty
  • LGBTQ and gender justice, inclusive of LGTBQ equity and reproductive justice
  • Electoral justice, inclusive of voting and voting rights, democracy and election year engagement.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

The 2019-2020 internship will provide an opportunity for an intern to work with the Organizing Strategy Team (OST) on equipping and mobilizing Unitarian Universalists for deep faithful electoral engagement in partnership with front line community organizers and others for the 2020 elections as part of movement building for justice and liberation. Our UU community has much we can offer in terms of providing spiritual support, infrastructure, volunteers, and resources to partnerships with electoral justice organizers to protect the vote, fight voter suppression and mobilize for our shared values in the next electoral cycle and beyond. Resources and coaching will be developed for faith grounding and advocating for our deeply held faith values through electoral campaigns, for forming teams and mobilizing with justice partners for community organizing, values-based conversations, voter registration, and Get Out the Vote efforts. The work will include organizing, theological reflection, resource development, project administration, research, writing, and database tracking. A power analysis will be developed with the OST and partners of the US electoral landscape and of various key states for where there are opportunities for UUs to build for justice through ballot initiatives, key local and state elections, and the deepening of justice partnerships.
