Organization Description:

The Arlington Street Church, a historic congregation in downtown Boston, has a progressive membership of approximately 300, many of whom are Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender persons. There are 45 children enrolled in religious education programming. Opportunities for ministry unique to this setting include issues of:

  • Urban Setting (including homelessness, hunger, mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction)
  • local and global social justice
  • large numbers of people coming to Unitarian Universalism from other religious traditions
  • families with children who have special needs

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

The student may participate in such areas of ministry as:

  • planning and leading intergenerational and mid-week worship
  • preaching and rites of passage
  • planning, coordinating and teaching children, youth and adult religious education
  • working with Arlington Street's Jubilee initiative ("the church has left the church!") or the Social Action committee
  • working with the UU Affairs committee to facilitate connections between the church and the UUA
  • supporting the thriving young adult ministry and small group ministry.

In addition to these areas, there will be ongoing opportunities for pastoral care and counseling, and for learning about the overall administration of the church.
