Organization Description:

The Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life at Brown University is a institutionally-funded office led by the Chaplain of the University and a multi-faith team of Associate Chaplains whose shared mission is to nourish the religious, spiritual and ethical life of the university community in the quest for knowledge, justice, truth and useful engagement. The Chaplains advocate for religious and spiritual conviction as a viable world-view and as a basis for personal and community well-being. Part of the mission of the Chaplaincy is to enable the formation of mature and healthy individual and institutional consciences that will result in responsible global citizenry.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

A field work placement for a Chaplaincy Intern might include involvement in one or more of the following: worship leadership - weekly and occasional; program development, e.g. the weekly Interfaith supper and discussion program, general pastoral care especially bereavement support, religious literacy projects, study groups; work with faculty, staff and students; a variety of possible settings including Ecumenical Protestant, Imani Jubilee Worship, Queer spirituality, staff enrichment, Muslim Student Association, the Multi-faith Council and/or student leadership or publications.

Commute/Transportation Information:

Brown University is 55 miles from Harvard Square and is accessible by train, bus and auto. The site provides $300 annual support for transportation beyond stipend.

Supervision:

Weekly supervisory sessions are required. It is hoped that the Intern will join the weekly Tuesday AM whole staff meetings and/or weekly Thursday evening supper series.
