Organization Description:
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee advances human rights and social justice around the world, partnering with those who confront unjust power structures and mobilizing to challenge oppressive policies. UUSC focuses on four major program areas to carry out our efforts to advance human rights and social justice: Advancing Economic Justice, Defending civil liberties and access to democratic processes, Environmental Justice-promoting and defending the human right to water, Protecting Rights in humanitarian crisis. We work in partnership with local grassroots organizations in the United States and around the world, standing with these communities as they confront unjust power structures and challenge oppressive policies. In each program area, we focus especially on issues of race, class, and gender and their roles in perpetuating injustice and human rights abuses. UUSC also provides unique opportunities for social justice activists to translate their values into action by participating in on-the-ground projects through our experiential learning programs, JustWorks and JustJourneys. The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) envisions a world free from oppression and injustice, where all can realize their full human rights.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
UUSC will provide the student with a wide range of experience in issue education, advocacy development, membership organizing, activism, and client services. The student will work closely with the supervisor and will also have many opportunities to have input, show initiative, and creativity.
