Organization Description:

Site Unavailable 2023-2024.

The setting is a suburban, middle-class Episcopal Church of some 310 family units located 35 minutes north of Cambridge, close to routes 495 and 93, in a still growing town. Many younger families are joining the congregation. The people tend to be conservative in churchmanship, yet open to new ideas. The Holy Communion is celebrated at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, and the main service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday alternates between Holy Communion and Morning Prayer. The value of such a setting is found in the preparation for parish ministry in the average Episcopal Church in this country. All facets of parish life are found in microcosm and can be examined. Terms of Placement: Student must be open to all aspects of parish life and have real interest in the area of working with youth. $3000 stipend. Although trains are available from Boston, a car is quite essential.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

The task of the student will be broad in the sense that all parts of parish life are open for exploration. Aside from preaching and visiting, particular focus will be on work with young people. The parish is committed to education and needs expertise and organizational skills from outside. The other segment of time and tasks will be negotiated.
