Organization Description:
Smith College in Northampton, MA is the largest women's college in the United States offering 50 areas of study for 2,600 students (hailing from all 50 U.S. states and 72 other countries). Smith is a member of the Five College consortium which includes the University of Massachusetts, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke, and Amherst colleges. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life supports nearly a dozen student-led campus religious organizations, connects students to local communities of faith, and provides programs in community service, wellness, moral inquiry and religious literacy.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The intern will work closely with the dean of religious life to develop a program of interfaith leadership development for student members of campus religious organizations including but not limited to Al-Iman (Muslim), Newman (Catholic), Radical Catholic Feminists (Catholic), Freethinkers (Agnostic), Hillel (Jewish), Christian Fellowship (Non-denominational). The work will involve meeting with students, assessing their needs and capacities, and developing a supportive on-campus program to nurture and sustain student religious organizations. It will involve some evening and weekend meetings. It is likely that the student will also get some experience in pastoral care. This is an opportunity to creatively think about religious leadership in a non-sectarian environment with motivated, engaged, and talented students.

Supervision:
The Dean of Religious Life will supervise the intern in weekly meetings. The meetings will be designed to promote the intern's professional development as a reflective practitioner and to work collaboratively on the creative direction of the leadership program.
