MAH is a 250-bed community teaching hospital which treats more than 12,000 inpatients and 200,000 outpatients and emergency cases a year. The patient population represents a variety of ethnic and socio-economic, urban and suburban groups. The diversity of services attracts numbers of patients and physicians from other states and suburban areas. In addition to the medical residency program, many other departments have teaching programs.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

The student will be responsible for pastoral care services on specific patient care units. S/he will be incorporated into the team approach which is operative here. Through reading, supervision, peer discussion and work with patients and staff, the student will receive a solid introduction into the life and practice of hospital chaplaincy. There is opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary meetings including the hospital Ethics Committee. There will be occasional didactic seminars on related matters. (preferably 2nd or 3rd year students)
