Organization Description:

This church offers a multiple-staff experience and serves a wide range of ages and family situations. The congregation of 300+ adults, 225 children and 50 youth, is well-educated, moderately affluent, and known for its strong music program, well-developed religious education and youth programs, strong small group involvement, and a commitment to spiritual development. The congregation was originally founded in the 1800s by abolitionists in the town of Lexington and continues to hold social justice work as a priority. The student will participate in accordance with his or her development needs in the life of this active church community. This work would include "hands-on" experience in preaching and worship creation, social justice organizing and visioning, religious education, pastoral care and counseling, and youth and adult courses or programs. The intern would work with staff and lay leaders to learn the many roles, skills, and tasks of ministry. There is plenty of ministry to be done at Follen and in the surrounding community, and we invite you to bring your skills and enthusiasms to our congregation!

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

We are open to working with a half time intern over two church years, or a full-time intern for one year. Students are expected to be open-minded, insightful, willing to provide written and oral self-reflections for supervision, and able to cope with a variety of situations in an effectively flexible manner. We fully expect the student to seek a well-rounded experience, working with our action teams to share the ministry of social justice, worship and music, religious education, finance and stewardship, community and hospitality, pastoral care, and even buildings and grounds. Ministers wear many hats and we hope you'll have a chance to try them all on.

Lexington is mostly a driving town, but there is an MBTA bus up Mass. Ave from Alewife.
