Organization Description:
The Society was gathered in 1730. The present meeting house was built in 1816; a graceful addition contains three floors of vigorously used space. There are 380 active adult members and 120 children and youth. Parish interests are varied and robust. The congregation has a fierce belief in shared ministry, reflected in collaborative effort between the laity and professional leadership. All vital signs are strong - religious education, social concern, denominational participation, aesthetics, spiritual discipline, sense of community. The congregation is committed to being a teaching parish (and learning community), and feels it has much to contribute to ministers-in-training.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
First Parish offers rich opportunities to engage the community within and beyond the meetinghouse walls, including preaching and pastoral care. The congregation seeks a student who has a background of UU church experience, is gifted with skills in facilitating and has a strong sense of vocation for parish ministry.
