The Council On Aging, a municipal agency, provides advocacy and support services to help elders live independent and dignified lives. Services include information and referral, care planning and management, counseling and family support, health care services, meals on wheels, transportation, benefits counseling, educational programs, and advocacy.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The student/intern will have considerable freedom in designing his/her own project, with inclusion of outreach advocacy and direct assistance to frail homebound elderly. Responsibilities may include addressing the elderly's spiritual needs by direct contact with clients, interface with local churches and congregations, and participating in scheduled seminars with other staff and student/interns (nursing, social work) at the site.
