Historical Information:

The Dana McLean Greeley Foundation for Peace and Justice was established in 1986, in honor of the Rev. Dr. Dana McLean Greeley (1908-1986), who served as President of the American Unitarian Association (1958-1961), and as President of the Unitarian Universalist Association (1961-1961). He was also the Vice-President of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, and served as minister of a number of churches in New England, among them Arlington Street Church in Boston (1935-1958) and First Parish in Concord (1970-1986). When the Greeley Foundation began in 1986, it dedicated its work to Rev. Greeley's commitment to peace and justice as a way of life. As written in its founding Statement of Purpose, the Foundation's goal is to "promote dialogue and leadership; to elevate integrity, compassion, honesty and courage; and to seek creative ways to realize the strong, joyous, vital and unifying power of Peace." The Foundation was dissolved in 2006, and it assets were used to fund five new initiatives with larger organizations.
