Historical Information:
The Benevolent Fraternity of Churches in the City of Boston was organized in 1834 and incorporated in 1839. Originating with the efforts of Joseph Tuckerman in 1826, it was an association of several Unitarian churches whose ministers sought to preach the gospel to the poor through philanthropy, education, worship, and free church privileges.
Scope and Content:
Collection consists of volumes of minutes and records, beginning with the minutes for the Fund for the Free Instruction of the Poor in 1827, and ending with the minutes of the November, 1928 meeting.
