This course surveys spiritual practices and movements that have been labeled as "metaphysical," "esoteric," "occult," "harmonial" or "New Age." Beginning with colonial practices of astrology, alchemy, and spirit possession, we will consider Swedenborgianism, Spiritualism, Theosophy, New Thought, and their myriad descendents in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
